IN MOMENTS, THOSE MOMENTS THAT BRING US TO AN EDGE, THAT HAS NO PAUSE, BUT BEGS FOR IT, WE CAN. TAKING JUST 15 MINUTES A DAY WE CAN HOLD SPACE FOR OURSELVES TO GATHER LOOSE ENDS, FEEL AND CLAIM BACK OUR CREATIVE SELVES.
As winter seems to be drawing slowly to a close, when I feel myself at a creative standstill, I turn to those peaceful manifested places to photograph. I find it allows my creativity to hold and preserve a sense of self. When confusion is around, when life feels consuming and to be myself seems elusive, these quiet places, still parts of time, call me back and hold me.
Since getting sober and discovering my need for transparency and the vulnerability it brings, photography has served as a safe counterbalance in my life. A place that moved me when stagnation seemed to be my way and most certainly, stillness when confusion was all around. I'm called to and would love to share how I've leaned into finding the stillness through my photography and the photographs I make.
The camera is a tool and photography can be a personal extension and a form of expression for us. Whether you are using a high-end DSLR or an iPhone, my camera of choice most all the time, it’s about our hearts reflection through our eyes and our camera. As I’ve said many times and remind myself of it daily, it’s more about what we feel rather than what we see. If we can stay open to what it is we are feeling, it’s been my experience that we stay open to noting an abundance of scenes and stories.
Over the 10 days you will be receiving a daily prompt. Please know that I would expect, prefer really, that this not take up your day, but rather just a 15 minute exercise that happens once during the day. The photo above was set up, taken and processed in 15-20 minutes. Remember, this shouldn’t be chore, think of it more as meditation. We want to think of this short time a day as a thoughtful voice, leading ourselves with a kind hand.
This 10 day course, Still, will lead you, will quiet those places in your life, in your heart, that may need your reflective time and silent presence. I will walk you through the steps with daily information and prompts, encouraging you to own your own voice. We will be concentrating on those moments when chaos is present and stillness is needed. We’ll come together on Instagram and share through the hashtag #ourstillplaces—which will give us a togetherness and support. We will also have a private Facebook group—a private space for us to gather. I’ll be in both spaces to provide supportive feedback—I’m in it with you.
Still starts on Monday, March 6th and ends Friday, March 17th. An email will be delivered straight to your inbox each day for 10 days. The introductory cost for this 10 day eCourse is just $39.00 (to register, click button above or below). My hope is that this course will touch and lead you to a place that gives you that truest vision for your own photography and self.
