May 29th — June 2nd
(Limit eight people)

In each of us there is a facade, a veneer that we cling to.

We grip with the force of a feverish forever. We pray for its strength, the hidden protection it provides, and hope for the safety (we like to believe) invisibility gives. With time, a blessing occurs. It is a blessing born of our desperation to be real, and the hope to bring us closer to wholeness. The facade is crumbling, the veneer has cracked, and we begin to see the beauty in the scars, our scars, our revealed edges, and our truest self. It exposes a place in us not meant for mass consumption, not needing empty affirmation. Not needing anything but living in our own moments. It is a place within that is content with our own acknowledgement … our own whispers.

This is Rome, this is your voice, this is you.

Joined by my friend, Erin Faith Allen, a most talented photographer, artist and guide. I’ve been moved and inspired by her work for years. Much of what this event is about is based on the many conversations we’ve had and the questions we’ve asked.

If you could take one photo today, and write one sentence, would it last a lifetime?

Can that become what you cling to, hold on to—allowing yourself to pause, stand still, and wait?

Can you hold your moment like a decadent morsel—holding the beauty of the moment, letting it nurture you, inspire you, even possess you?

Can you let that be your forever—letting YOU be your forever?

In our social media driven, fast moving world, we want to invite you to a precious time to savor, to imbibe, to devour the true beauty that flourishes under the veneers.  The languid and precious moments of life that happen, pass, and float onward. To examine and capture our happenings and meanderings from a still-point inside. To share in a time that is just ours, to be in a safe place that is here, that is now to linger—to witness—to ruminate—to feel.

Our coming together is not about achieving the perfection of a polished piece or body of work, shining up your public image. It is about allowing yourself to breathe—to see—to begin—to be present again.

Even with the best of intentions, these questions cannot be resolved in a day or week, but we can take the steps toward preparing ourselves, gently planting the seeds that will take root, and ripen for harvest.

  • We can begin to prepare a space within, a place that we nurture and strengthen.

  • We can begin to see the truest gift of the right questions and be patient towards the answers that may come.

  • We can begin to surround ourselves with those that share in our path and empathize in our truths.

Our truest hope is that we leave this offered space in Rome with a foothold in our truest being, our deepest seeing, a practice of becoming, and a new found togetherness … inside and out.

Agendas are a necessary evil. Most of our gatherings, end up more conversational and intimate—sharing, expressing and growing—it's really all connected to what we feel about all that we see and the photos we make. With only ten of us, including Erin and I, I feel it might go that way. With that said, we will be sending out an agenda as the time approaches, but again, want to stay in tune to the group ethos and how we are feeling from day-to-day. Shooting varies from one day to the next, but we hold that one day lifts the next and the next, like something growing. It's really all we know how to do: stay open to the space we hold and each other.

Erin Faith Allen is a professional seer, wanderer, and documenter of the glorious intersection where
shadow and beauty collide and weave themselves together. If you could crack open the archives of her world, they would reveal an obsession with preserving the present moment, that interlude between being in what *is* … and dissecting and digesting it. A seasoned photographer, filmmaker, author, and mixed media artist, her most passionate muse relishes the pleasure of travel, culture, history and the exploration of sensory experiences.

Henry Lohmeyer uses his lens to capture the edges of vulnerability, where heart meets soul and the courage to be seen is the only thing left waiting. A seasoned photographer, Henry’s learned his craft by wandering the streets of St. Louis, Los Angeles, NYC and most recently Paris, France, where the stories of men arriving from Afghanistan and elsewhere illuminates for all of us just how fragile it is, this notion we hold of “home.”

*It is my intention to secure this space, but if another is needed, due to fewer signups or to unforeseen events, accommodations as nice or nicer will be chosen.

**Does not include airfare or transportation to and from the house in Rome.

***Because of limited space available, deposits are nonrefundable. However, the deposit can be transferred to participant taking your spot.
