Calling: A photography retreat.
December 1st — 3rd
There is a need we have, maybe even a ravenous hunger. It's a beast, a gentle one, that only our photography can tame. It's there that we find vulnerability, connection and our own voice. Join me on this very special photo retreat to Joshua Tree National Park—making photos, sharing what we discover and holding onto the connections that we'll have. I'd be honored for you to join us.
Whether it be a phone (so much of my work is through my iPhone) or high-end DSLR, it's our expression that counts, it's our photos made that gives us our voice. When I started photographing with thought seven years ago, spending sometimes no more than five minutes a day—everyday—I had no idea or aspiration that photography would be my healing, growth and life.
Photography is the manner, connection is my need. I was asked once why I photograph. My response, it's the clearest way I know to connect with others. If making paper or painting murals would have done that, I'd be doing those things instead, but we all know that it's those brief moments, connecting or often in isolation that we feel closer to whole. So, we come together to share our passion, our craft and our expression through the photographs we make.
You can look forward to:
Shuttle service to and from LAX (leaving LAX at 2pm Friday, returning noon on Sunday).
A shared home for two nights, with each having their own bed, to spend restful evenings and share relaxing mornings.
Casual and healthy continental breakfasts each morning.
Hors d'oeuvre and drinks each evening. (While wine, beer or spirits are welcomed, they will not be provided)
Transportation to and from dwellings and Joshua Tree National Park.
Three photo outings. Two on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Most importantly, a safe place to share our experiences and our art.
We will only have room for five people, four are already spoken for. Cost per person is only $850. To hold your place, a deposit of $400 is needed at signup with the balance due by November 1st. To signup, please pay deposit to my Paypal account, firstname.lastname@example.org. Again, we'd love to have you on this meaningful photographic adventure. And, if you have any questions, feel free to text me at 314.315.3689. I'll do my very best to answer any questions you may have.
Henry Lohmeyer uses his lens to capture the edges of vulnerability, where heart meets soul and the courage to be seen is the only thing left waiting. A seasoned photographer, Henry’s learned his craft by wandering the streets of St. Louis, Los Angeles, NYC and most recently Paris, France for three months, where the stories of men arriving from Afghanistan and elsewhere illuminates for all of us just how fragile it is, this notion we hold of “home.” He's hosted gatherings in New York City, Los Angeles, Paris and Bisbee AZ, all so moving in their own special ways.
